Norwalk resident Aren Craft was found around 12:15 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8 after police, marine unit, fire, Stamford Fire Department rescue divers and EMS officials responded to the area of Moodys Lane for a car in the water.
According to Lt. Tomasz Podgorski of the Norwalk Police, the car was immediately found in the submerged in the water. Police and firefighters began to tether the vehicle to secure its position.
Stamford Fire Department rescue divers entered the water and removed Craft, Podgorski said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As patrol officers secured the scene, the Norwalk Police Dive Team worked to secure the vehicle to ropes and assisted in its recovery to shore.
The vehicle was processed by the Crime Scene Unit.
Preliminary investigation revealed Craft intentionally drove into the river and was the sole occupant of the vehicle, Podgorski said.
"The members of the Norwalk Police Department extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Aren Craft," he added.
